OpenAL (with EAX5) library for X-FI on Linux was promised. When will be available?
April 30, 2007 -- Creative plans to make proprietary (closed source) drivers available for the X-Fi series of sound cards. SEE Soundcard Support for updated details. These drivers should have full support for ALSA (playback, recording, mixer, MIDI, synthesis) and OpenAL 1.1 (with EAX effects). -----> These drivers should have full support for ALSA (playback, recording, mixer, MIDI, synthesis) and OpenAL 1.1 (with EAX effects). <------- Today is 10 November 2008. There is no OpenAL 1.1 (with EAX effects) for X-FI on Linux. Creative, are you going to break promise?

There is a new release (as of Nov 6th 2008) of Creative's 32bit and 64bit Linux drivers for hardware based X-Fi cards.   Not sure if OpenAL / EAX are supported - but progress is being made.
