| With sound mode when CMSS-3D (Headphones) activated? Hi everybody,
This is my first post here, so please forgive me if i did something wrong. I also wish to apologize for bad laungage, but Im from Poland. Ok so there is my question:
When Im using Headphones with CMSS-3D, and Alchemy enabled, should I set 5.1 audio, or choose Headphones. There is an example: Im playing Counter-Strike:Source, with CMSS-3D, and Alchemy enabled. Then each time Im starting the game, and enter options-sound i see that in sound label there is 5.1 sound set. I change it every time I play for Headphones, but should I? Or maybe there should be 5.1 set even if i use Headphones?
And one more question. Im using Windows 7 Home Premium x64. When Im clicking on speaker on lower-right corner of the screen and selecting playback devices (not exactly, coz Im using PL version), then clicking on speakers then configure, then i checking stereo sound instead of 5.1, and then checking both labels in next question, but should I? Or should I check 5.1 sound even for Headphones? (because of CMSS-3D).

| Most of the X-Fi models detect when you plug in headphones, and should automatically selsect CMSS-3D (Headphones) as the mode of operation. It it is supposed to emulate surround sound on two-speaker headphones.
With the headphones not plugged in, just select 5.1 surround in Windows and/or the Creative panel. Once you plug them in, don't mess with the setting. It actually sounds pretty decent.
Inside a game you should be selecting 5.1, which will output the sound to your card, which then does its magic to your headphones.

| Thanks for replay, but actually I dont have 5.1 speakers. My only sound device are those Headphones. So should I still select 5.1 in game settings? Or should I select Headphones instead?
Again: I dont have any speakers. Just Headphones. So which sound mode should i select?

| I would just set everything as 'headphone' or stereo. Then go in and make sure CMSS-3D is on.
Not sure why Counterstrike is changing your 'speaker' settings. You could try removing the game from the ALchemy list, as you only really need ALchemy on games with EAX or if you need surround sound.
I don't think Source games have EAX, and if you are just using headphones, maybe disabling ALchemy will make Counterstrike stop switching back to 5.1 all the time.

| Set the x-fi speakers to headphones, make sure CMSS-3D is enabled & then right click the speaker icon down by the clock & configure the speakers to 7.1 (that's a very important step) & that's all you need to do. You can test the effect by clicking the test button on the cmss-3d section on the console launcher.
IT works great in fps shooters like bf2, with a cheap pair of stereo headphones, cmss-3d turn them into a 7.1 system & I can really tell where the sound is coming from in game. |

Fine if you don't want to take advice I wont bother helping you any further, last word from me though, neither the x-fi speakers & windows speaker setting should be stereo, you get no benefit from the virtual surround of cmss-3d if you set stereo! You should know that cmss-3d is for headphones!!!
It's this simple, headphones in the x-fi console & 7.1 set in the windows playback speaker configuration, with subwoofer unchecked & leave both front & surround speakers ticked as `full range speakers`, if you untick those you get no bass effect through your headphones.
But if you don't want to take my word for it, that's upto you. |

| Sorry i want to take your advice, but even if i want i cant set 7.1 in windows speaker configuration, because there is only one avlibile selection: stereo. There is no other possibilties.

| I have the same problem, I just got the Fatal1ty hs-1000 headset which plugs in usb. It only shows 2 speaker option in the windows sound config so i cant have it set to 5.1 or 7.1.
