ALchemy discussion forum for Audigy users

| | UT2004 and UT3 don't work with Audigy under Vista 64-bit Both games simply don't start, freezing immediately after splash screen appears. both games work without any problems with motherboard integrated audio (ADI Soundmax). Both games seem to be configured to use OpenAl. This site tells that they don't need ALchemy, but they still don't run. Any ideas about how to run 2 of my most favorite games with Audigy under Vista 64-bit? I'm pissed off to the point of throwing away Audigy, buy some cheap Cmedia card and never ever buy any Creative products. :( | |

| | As you point out, these games do not require ALchemy - so this is not the best place to post your questions about those 2 games.
Having said that ... here a few ideas that might help solve the problem.
1. If you have a file called adi_oal.dll in your Windows\System32 folder, try renaming it to adi_xxx.dll. This file can sometimes be left after uninstalling ADI soundmax drivers and can cause problems when a game is searching for all the available OpenAL playback devices.
3. Do you have latest audio drivers installed?
4. In the game(s) ... what audio settings have you selected?
Thanks,
Dan

| | Thanks for advices. Yes, I found adi_oal.dll and renamed it as you suggested. I checked my openAL libraries and they are newer than the ones in this download:
OpenAL32.dll version 6.14.357.22 (I have 6.14.357.23)
wrap_oal.dll version 2.1.8.1 (I have 2.2.0.5)

| | I managed to run UT2004 after checking "System Driver" option in the settings - yes, doing exactly the opposite of what is advised in the Games list on this site.
Still no success with UT3. No matter the option "Hardware OpenAL" is on or off, UT3 doesn't work.

| | By checking "System Driver" in UT2004 you will NOT be using the hardware accelerated Audigy OpenAL device. It is of course better than a crash, but it is not the recommended set-up.
