FEAR Extraction Point?
I am experiencing some difficulty with FEARXP. Perhaps I have not registered it correctly with Alchemy. It does not show up in the list of recognized games so I added it manually using the "Game Path" option (C:\Program Files\Sierra\FEAR\FEARXP) It enabled the EAX options in FEAR and when I turn them all on I get beautiful sounds and full 3d, however I don't get the speech any more (characters over the radio). when I turn the EAX options off, I get the speech back - but of course the sound quality suffers. Is there an option I didn't do right?

I had problems too. Surround sound worked but the music skipped forward constantly missing whole sections of the soundtrack. The sound was extremely fuzzy and caused a massive performance drop.

Not the first game to cause a performance drop either.

ALchemy has only been tested (internally) on the original FEAR.  It may be that FEAR XP changed the audio engine so that it now requires some slightly different settings.

Could you please try setting the Duration setting to values less than 25 (e.g try 20, then 15, then 10) and see if that improves things?

If you are having performance problems I would recommend setting the MaxVoiceCount lower than 64 (e.g try 50, then 40, then 30).

Don't make a new Entry for the expansion. Edit the Old F.E.A.R. entry and use the "subfolder"* option (write in there "Fearxp") and make sure "use Root and Subfolder"* is aktive. * I have German Alchemy Setup so i don't no the real entry in Englisch for this Option.

TITLE: F.E.A.R. XP--No Sub Channel, Missing Radio Sounds (Maybe other sounds...how does one know they are missing if there is no visual cue, lol)

I never finished Extraction Point before I built my new PC, so I just started over with the new system. Originally, I was playing on an XP Pro, P4 1GB, X1650 Pro, with no soundcard. My new system consists of:

Vista HP x64
Q9550
Asus P5N-D, 2GB Mushkin
GTX 260
X-Fi Xtreme Gamer

Playing F.E.A.R. and XP on the old P4 system, I used headphones (no surround) and had no sound problems at all. Before starting FXP, I added it to ALchemy by using the registry path on Creative's site. The first thing I noticed with the X-Fi was no sub channel. The FL/R, RL/R, and Center were functioning correctly as near as I could tell. The sub channel tested OK in the Creative Console.

Soon, I also realized that some, but not all radio messages were missing the audio. To see if it was a fluke, I saved right before the missing radio message and tried 3 or 4 times, with the same result, but when I turned HW Mixing off, the radio message came through. Additionally, I believe that the music MAY be stopping prematurely now and then, but I'm not certain about that at all.

As an aside, after enabling the 'HW Mixing' and both EAX options, the first poster mentioned "beautiful sounds" and "full 3d". I, however, could not ascertain any significant difference between software and hardware. I am a musician and my ears function quite well, but I admit that I only compared the two settings for a minute or so in the first room of the game...
